Most business owners are overwhelmed with trying to decide what’s next for their business.

It doesn’t help that there are so many people telling you a million different things you need to be doing to make your business a success – it’s no wonder you’re feeling overwhelmed!

In this post I’m going to share with you three tips to move past information overwhelm so that you can focus on the right things (at the right time) in your business and accelerate your progress by simplifying the things you are doing.

 1. Simplify your strategy

Do you find yourself overwhelmed by a never ending to do list, bouncing around from one thing to the next, working long days and still feeling like you’re behind?

Whilst collecting and learning new information is helpful, it’s not what makes a business actually succeed.

Success comes when you shift gears from learning to doing.

But when you have so many ideas flying around in your head, how do you know what to focus on?

When you try to do too many things at once in your business, things can feel very complicated and it can often lead to paralysis because you don’t know where to start.

Trying to do all the things will cause stress, overwhelm and confusion and you’ll be spinning so many plates that you won’t get anything done.

You need a simple strategy that will take you from where you are now to where you want to be.

This means doing the things that are going to make the biggest difference to your business right now.

It’s time to get rid of the long to-do list of marketing ideas and instead focus on 2-3 tactics that are aligned with your business and personality and IMPLEMENT them to move your business forward.

Then pay close attention to what works and what doesn’t, so you can optimise the things that work moving forward.

Some useful questions to ask yourself are – will completing this task move me closer to my goals or have a positive impact on my business as a whole?

If the answer is yes, ask yourself, is it a priority right now?

This will enable you to make decisions from a place of leadership.

It’s really important to remember that there is no one size fits all to business growth.

The best strategy is one that is intentional and that is unique to YOUR business.

2. Create a plan of action

Having a strategy in place will help to keep you focused on how you’re going to reach your goals, however, this means nothing if you don’t implement what it is you need to do.

Creating a plan of action that lays out the action steps you need to take each day, week and month will help you to build purposeful momentum in your business.

This is why I like to do quarterly planning, because 90 days is enough time to test what’s working and not working and you can focus on a couple of projects at a time and actually get them finished before trying something new.

You will be intentional and proactive rather than constantly being reactive.

Getting into the mindset of ONLY implementing what’s on your plan will help you stay focused and ensure you are making progress towards your goals.

Nothing hinders progress more than flitting from one idea to the next because you never give anything enough time to actually work.

If you know that you get distracted by new ideas and new marketing trends, then you may find it helpful to save them in a ‘not right now’ list of ideas that you can refer back to later on.

If you need to shut out the noise of all the people who are telling you about the ‘next best marketing tactic’ then mute them on social media.

Put the blinders on and focus on your plan of action.

It’s only by stepping into action and implementing that you are going to see progress and growth in your business.

3. Be the leader of your business

Right now you may feel like you’re struggling to juggle all the things that come along with this journey as a business owner as well as being a mother, partner, daughter – you’re definitely not alone.

It can often feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done.

Being able to prioritise your time and energy on results-based activities and saying no to busy work will free up so much of your time that is spent on pointless tasks that don’t impact your bottom-line.

As a business owner the majority of your time will be spent on marketing (finding clients), sales (booking clients) and service (serving clients).

Create blocks of time each day to focus on the activities in your action plan.

This will ideally be at a time when you are distraction free.

Having structure in your day will allow you to feel more in control.

Every morning ask yourself – what you’re doing, why you’re doing it and how you need to show up? This will keep you intentional and focused.

As the leader of your business you always want to keep an eye on the big picture view.

Remember…

There’s no one-size-fits-all for sustainable business growth. There are plenty of options, but never one perfect fit.

It’s about understanding the life you want, and how you want to grow your business in a way that feels good for you.

Your business, your way.

In today’s fast-paced world, there is an endless stream of distractions trying to get your attention. From the 24/7 news updates and pull of social media to noisy work spaces and the pinging of notifications on your phone, reminding you that there is something new for you to pay attention to, it’s not surprising that you find it hard to focus.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Time is your most important resource and so it’s vital that you protect it.

Being productive is less about getting as much done as possible but more about being disciplined and being as effective as possible.

So focusing on the things that matter most.

Here are 5 ways to be more productive in your day:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
→ If you find yourself trying to make your way through a really long to-do list every day, you’ll only feel stressed and overwhelmed. Instead choose just 3 things to prioritise that day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
→ The ‘ping’ sound of a notification is normally too much to ignore so during times of focused work, turn your phone to flight mode or turn off notifications.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
→ Multitasking or switching between tasks reduces productivity significantly and impacts your effectiveness. Choose instead to focus on one thing at a time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
→ Your inbox is definitely something that can take up loads of your time. Block out a couple of times a day to check your emails instead of constantly checking them throughout the day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
→ Not having an action plan mapped out and lacking focus on what you are working towards can leave you feeling stuck and overwhelmed. Start your day knowing exactly what you are working on and why.

How often do you spend your time worrying about things that are outside your control?

In Stoic philosophy one of the foundational principles they teach is to focus our energy on what we can control.

This principle can be demonstrated when we think about circles of control. The inner circle represents the things we can control - our thoughts, actions and choices. We can change these things. The outer circle represents the things outside our control - other people’s actions, circumstances, events. We can’t change these things. That’s not to say that we can’t care about these things, but we can choose how we respond to them.

Many studies have shown that when we embrace these circles, we are more likely to develop a sense of inner calm and resilience, experience positive emotions and develop a better sense of self-efficacy.

So if you find yourself feeling overwhelmed ask yourself, is this in my control? Focus your energy there.

How can you be more curious? 🧐

Curiosity is an eager wish to know or learn about something. When we embrace curiosity in both our personal and professional lives, we ask questions with the intent to find out more and we listen with no intent to reply, we listen to deeply understand. This builds meaningful connections, a deeper understanding and can lead to perspective shifts.

Being curious allows us to explore our external environment, but it can be really powerful to use our curiosity to explore our internal environment too. Being curious about our thoughts, emotions and beliefs builds a greater self-awareness which is the foundation for personal growth and professional excellence.

Give me a ❤️ if you are going to embrace your curiosity.

“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become” - James Clear

This is one of my favourite quotes from the brilliant book, Atomic Habits.

It’s a great reminder that in every moment we are presented with choices - small decisions that together shape our journey and become the building blocks of our identity. Each action is a vote for or against the person we aspire to be.

When we see every action as a vote, change becomes less overwhelming. Instead of focusing on making a big transformation, we focus on the present moment. Is this action in alignment with my goals and values? Is it a vote for the person I want to become?

Every action becomes a mindful decision. Over time these votes add up, leading to profound shifts in identity.

It’s easy to overlook the power of small actions, but they can lead to significant transformation in our lives. Research consistently shows that starting small is key when it comes to forming new habits.

Progress is not always about massive leaps. It’s about consistent, intentional steps forward.

Each small action serves as a building block, slowly moving us toward a tipping point where our efforts begin to compound and create significant results.

Focus on one microshift at a time and let the energy and momentum build.

What one microshift will you start today? ❤️

The Tale of Two Wolves

One evening an elder Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside all people. He said, ‘my son, the battle is between two wolves inside us. One is Fear. It carries anxiety, concern, uncertainty, hesitancy, indecision and inaction. The other is Faith. It brings calm, conviction, confidence, enthusiasm, decisiveness, excitement and action.” The grandson thought about it for a moment and then meekly asked his grandfather: “which wolf wins?” The old Cherokee replied, “The one you feed.”

I first read this tale in “The One Thing” by Gary Keller and I loved the simplicity and power of its message. It is an important reminder that experiencing these thoughts is something we all deal with on a daily basis, most of the time they happen unconsciously. Becoming aware of our thoughts enables us to reframe and choose more empowering thoughts which in turn impacts how we experience life and the world around us. It’s not always easy, but it is possible. It starts with awareness.

Last year I had a strong desire to uplevel my skills as a coach and embarked on a 6-month coaching journey with @optimuscoachacademy which involved over 75 hours of training, mentoring and coaching to become a certified coach with the International Coaching Federation.

It has enabled me to immerse myself in books and research around positive psychology, neuroscience and human behaviour which fuels my soul. It was truly an incredible experience. I met so many new amazing people that I am so grateful to now call my friends. I have spent dozens of hours coaching others and I have learnt so much about myself in the process.

I have always had an interest in personal development and was lucky to be exposed to NLP, coaching and psychology principles at 21 years old when I started my career in pharmaceuticals and this interest has only grown as my career developed and especially when I started my own business in 2015.

My business has evolved enormously over the past 8 years and it’s been a journey of so much personal growth for me. I feel all paths have led me to this place and I am so passionate about the power of coaching and the self-awareness it brings. I can’t wait to continue helping more people live extraordinary lives that bring them more joy and fulfilment in 2024 and beyond.

Learning new things feels good and this is one certificate I am super proud of! 😊
Congratulations you have been promoted!!! 🎉🥂

Hands up if you feel like you are wearing all the hats in your business - marketing, sales, finance, customer services, graphic designer, your services etc. The list goes on.

Wowzers! No wonder your brain feels like it could burst at any moment. There is one critical role missing from that list, and it’s actually the most important role and one that is so often overlooked. It’s your role as CEO of your business.

As the CEO of your business, it is your responsibility to lead the business forward from where you are now, to where you want to get to. This means looking at the big picture and stepping away from the “doing” and the busy work. It means putting a strategic plan in place that brings your creative ideas to life and intentionally moves the business forward week after week.

So with this comes the need to shift your identity from employee to CEO.

When you do this you will be able to ask yourself the important questions that enable you to focus on and prioritise the few things that make the biggest difference to growth.

You will have more clarity and you will start to feel more in control.

You will be able to simplify your business and finally put an end to bouncing from idea to idea hoping that something works.

And you will finally be making the income and impact you always wanted but on your terms.

Give me a 🙌 if you are ready to accept your position as CEO.
