blog image of how to get unstuck and grow your business

Research has shown that the average human receives about 34 Gb of information every day.

That is enough to overload a laptop within a week. That’s a crazy amount!

The internet has meant that as business owners we are able to look up pretty much anything when it comes to building a business, from how to build a website to how to film reels, there is no end to the advice available. You just have to look at social media and I’m sure your feed is filled with loads of different tactics that promise to make your business a success. This is all helpful to an extent, but it can soon become overwhelming.

So many women in business find themselves stuck on the income rollercoaster or working long hours which doesn’t match up to the way they envisioned life would be once they left their corporate job and embarked on their business journey.

If you resonate with this, then there are a few key reasons that may be keeping you stuck…

You don’t have solid foundations in place

Making sure your foundations are in place is a fundamental part of building a business that will thrive. If you don’t know who you’re talking to and what your offer is then everything else will feel that much harder. When you get these pieces in place, you can approach everything else with confidence. It’s also important to know that these aren’t set in stone and that as your business grows they will likely change as you introduce new offers.

  • Knowing who your ideal client is, the problems they have and how you can uniquely solve them.
  • Having a message that speaks directly to that ideal client.
  • Having a business model with offers that enable you to hit your revenue AND lifestyle goals.
  • Having offers that meet the needs of your ideal clients.
  • Having a system in place to market and sell your offers that optimise the customer journey.

You don’t know what you need to do next

Once you have offers for the right people at the right price, you need a marketing and sales system in place and this tends to be where overwhelm kicks in.

If you find yourself feeling stuck because you don’t know what you need to do next, it’s likely that you are overwhelmed with ideas and information about all the possible things you could be doing. Overwhelm tends to come from a lack of clarity. I’d take a guess that you’ve got freebies on how to use webinars, Instagram reels, challenges, LinkedIn, grow a FaceBook group….

The list is never ending and it’s honestly exhausting. When you are overloaded with information it becomes very difficult to know which tactic is ‘right’ for your business.

When this happens there are usually two approaches I see business owners take. The first is where you feel stuck and so you don’t implement any of the ideas you have. You feel like you need more information to find the ‘right’ tactic for you, but all that happens is you get stuck in a loop of gathering more information and ideas which just make you more confused.

The second is where you keep changing things in your business and jump from one tactic to the next when you don’t see the results you hoped for. You keep getting distracted by new ideas and so you never really give anything enough time to gain traction.

In both of these scenarios you are looking for the ‘magic formula’ that you hope will create the results you want, and unfortunately it doesn’t exist.

You know what you need to do but you’re getting in your own way

You’re trying to make things perfect before you put them out there or you’re procrastinating by avoiding the important things in your business and instead you’re doing ‘busy’ work that doesn’t really move the needle forward. A lot of the time this comes down to fear – fear of rejection, fear of getting things wrong or a fear of judgement. Keeping yourself in this place of perfectionism and avoidance are only going to keep you stuck. As the saying goes, ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’ and if you’re really struggling then find a way to keep yourself accountable either with business friends or a coach or mentor.

The key to success is having a clear strategy and implementing the tactics that support that strategy and optimising them as you go, so that you find the right things for your business.

If you resonate with any of the challenges above then please know that you are definitely not alone. Over the next few weeks I will be sharing simple ways in which you can get unstuck and build real momentum in your business. But for now, close those open tabs and stop overwhelming yourself with more information. Start implementing the ideas that excite you.
